Hoo St Werburgh Church Values
We aim to be:
v God centred
All of what we do, and how we do it, will be in accordance with the Christian Gospel. We seek to be guided by God and follow the example of Jesus.
Our focus is on God and his leading. We affirm the ‘What would Jesus do’ principle in our decisions and actions.
We will offer a range of services and activities which help us to maintain communal and individual relationships with God.
We are guided in our church life by the Anglican principle of observing the teachings of the Bible, Christian tradition, and reason, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
v Welcoming & Inclusive
We warmly welcome people of all ages and backgrounds, and aim to help them feel at home and included.
We will offer a range of services and activities appropriate for all ages and backgrounds. We seek to cater for all stages of faith and different Christian traditions.
We embrace diversity and flexibility.
We aim to foster a sense of belonging and connection.
We want to offer a safe space for all.
v Nurturing
We aim to support and nurture those who come to St Werburgh's in all aspects of life - spiritual, mental/emotional and practical.
We encourage people to grow in faith, and will offer services and activities to help this.
We seek to be a friendly and supportive community, offering mutual love and care - for and by all members.
We aim to express love in words and actions.
We want to grow together, and help one another grow in every aspect of life.
v Collaborative
Our church life is based on shared aims and working together for the common good, with a unity of intention.
We aim to work collaboratively with others, and avoid separate agendas or ’solo’ approaches.
We recognise that each person has different giftings, and encourage all to develop and use their talents for the good of all.
We promote unity and an atmosphere of togetherness, and discourage anything which fosters division.
We seek to communicate with one another openly and effectively in a two-way manner.
v Accountable
Our aim is to work together in an encouraging and effective way within an accountable structure.
The PCC and Priest in Charge have overall responsibility for the running and wellbeing of the church. We aim to encourage and involve all those who would like to share in the work of the church.
Office holders are responsible to the PCC, Priest in Charge, and one another. All activities will have the prior authorisation of the PCC. All services will be approved by the Priest in Charge. (In the event of extended absence of the Priest in Charge, the Churchwardens undertake their responsibilities).
All ministry exercised on behalf of the parish will be agreed between the Priest in Charge and those undertaking it. Everyone exercising regular ministry will have a working agreement.
We foster a culture of openness, integrity, and trust, with mutual respect and support.
